Universal Medium/Varnish The Universal Medium is a medium and varnish rolled into one. As a medium, use as a fast medium for layering Small additions to the paint reduce viscosity sharply and layers dry faster. As a water based varnish, it is comparable to solvent varnish. It is very easy to apply. It gives the colour saturation and enhancement of a good solvent based varnish. By adding water to the concentrate, different levels of sheen can be created between low sheen and high gloss. Artists should experiment with colour swatches to decide on the finishes that they prefer, as it is non removable. (For a removable varnish, see Chroma Solvent Finishing Varnishes.   Directions: Apply a seal coat of one part varnish: one part water. This allows the varnish to penetrate and seal the paint layer so that a more concentrated varnish can be spread easily when the seal coat is dry. Use full strength for a gloss finish or thin with water for a satin finish

Liquitex High Gloss Varnish - Can be used on rocks - see instructions below Seal your acrylic work with a transparent, high gloss acrylic layer which is breathable, permanent and protects against uv damage. What it does: 100% acrylic polymer varnish adds a high gloss sheen, protects and resists dirt retention. Dries clear to a flexible, non-tacky, hard surface. Increases brightness and colour saturation. Adjusts and unifies surface sheen. Improves surface durability - ideal when shipping or exhibiting. Protects colours from UV light damage. Resists discolouration - yellowing and fogging - caused by humidity, heat and uv. Depending on the substrate it allows surface moisture to pass through and breathe. Allows for easy cleaning without fear of damaging the acrylic paint film. Has excellent leveling properties - will not hold brush marks. Semi-opaque when wet, transparent when dry. Use on flexible or rigid supports. Designed for interior and exterior use. How to use it: As this is permanent, do a patch test first. Before varnishing ensure paint surface is fully dry (72 hours-2 weeks depending on thickness). Ensure your space is well ventilated and dirt and dust-free. Place the artwork flat on a surface - always varnish horizontally. Stir gently before use. Use long, even strokes, covering the surface top to bottom while moving from one side to the other - don't go over bits you have missed but leave to dry and then re-varnish area. While applying, look out for surface bubbles and even them out immediately. Apply up to three thin coats, allowing at least three hours dry time between coats.  If bubbles appear in the surface you can use a flame from a chefs torch or similar to pop them before the varnish hardens How not to use it: Do not shake or vigorously over-brush as this can result in surface bubbles and a foggy, hazy look when dry. Don't apply with a roller or sponge brush. Don't thin with water. Don't apply in one thick coat, but several thin coats, to avoid brush marks, drips and cloudiness. Don't go back over areas you have already done, as this can cause clouding. Don't attempt to remove once applied. Do not use with any non-acrylic media. Painted Rock Use If using on rocks, make sure your paint or markers are waterproof and suitable for outdoor use, this product does not waterproof your rocks, if you have any paints or pens that are not waterproof, you will need to seal with an acrylic clear coat spray layer before using this product, this is actually a good idea to always seal your drawing/painting first with an acrylic spray coat, let dry.  Now your rock is waterproof and protected, then apply the varnish as per above instructions, do not brush over any areas that you missed or feel you need to touch up, just leave and get them with the next coat, you will have a resin like finish without having to use messy stinky resin
